From cycling to patisserie: Barcelona creates the official cakes for the 2026 Tour de France Grand Départ
Barcelona is promoting a collection of cakes inspired by the jerseys of the Tour de France to mark the Grand Départ 2026, an initiative that unites sport, gastronomy and local commerce and that aims to extend to patisseries throughout Catalonia.
Barcelona has unveiled a collection of cakes inspired by the Tour de France jerseys as part of the Grand Départ Barcelona 2026, aiming to connect sport, gastronomy, and local commerce. The initiative is a joint effort between Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Pastry Guild (Gremi de Pastisseria de Barcelona).
The collection was presented at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell village, with the participation of three leading figures in the sector: Lluc Crusellas, David Gil and Ivan Prats, representing the provinces of Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona, the territories through which the first stages of the 2026 Tour will pass.
The collection consists of four individual cakes that reinterpret the iconic Tour de France jerseys with Mediterranean flavours. The yellow cake, inspired by the leader’s jersey, has a lemon centre; the white cake with red polka dots, linked to the mountains, incorporates cream and strawberries from the Maresme region; the green cake, representing the points classification, features pistachio; and the white cake, for the best young rider, is an almond Genoise with white chocolate.
The participating pastry chefs contribute a territorial representation linked to the Tour de France route. Lluc Crusellas, recognised at the 2022 World Chocolate Masters, led the design of the collection. David Gil, head of the Gil patisseries in Llívia, combines tradition and innovation from the Pyrenees. Ivan Prats, who runs Dolços Alemany in Amposta, continues the legacy of a century-old establishment with a commitment to renewal.
