Barcelona launches the ‘Ja Pedalo’ programme, a new educational initiative conceived to teach 3,000 third-grade students to ride a bike or improve their existing cycling skills at the Horta-Miquel Poblet Velodrome.

The project, due to be implemented by the Barcelona Institute of Sports for the 2025-2026 academic year, is part of the legacy of the 2026 Tour de France Grand Départ and aims to promote sustainable mobility and healthy habits among children.

Through two two-hour practical sessions, equipment adapted for all children and recycled bicycles courtesy of Biciclot, the programme seeks to ensure that all children have the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike.

The project has been described as “an opportunity to bring cycling to all schools in the city and turn Barcelona into an international benchmark”.
