Barcelona becomes a focal point for international cycling again this weekend with the MTB Eliminator 2026 world championship, which is being held on Saturday, 18 April, in the area around the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc. The event will crown the new world champions in an explosive urban discipline that combines speed, technique and the most demanding performances in each round.

The competition forms part of Cycling Week BCN, the event which is set to turn Barcelona into a showcase for city cycling and which this year also includes the Down Urban BCN, an urban descent event being held on Saturday morning in the area around the Estadi Olímpic and arriving at the Magic Fountain.

The MTB Eliminator is a short, intense and highly visual event. The system for the competition gets under way with a classifying stage to establish the running order, followed by knock-out rounds with four riders per series, with only the two fastest going through to the grand final, which will decide the world title.

The scenario of Montjuïc strengthens its spectacular urban character in a discipline conceived for sporting performance as well as a highly visual display for spectators. Barcelona has already opted for this format on other occasions and this year hosts a top-class international event again, endorsed by the UCI, which has included it in the official calendar for 18 April 2026.
