More than 780 people cycle for a good cause in the Tour de France 'Solidarity Cycling' event
The Moll de Marina wharf hosted the Tour 2026 Solidarity Cycling event, bringing together 780 participants and raising €8,330 for brain disease research, in an event that combined sport, health, and solidarity in Barcelona.
The Moll de Marina wharf hosted a massive Solidarity Cycling event this Saturday to mark the Grand Départ of the 2026 Tour de France, bringing together 780 participants in Barcelona’s Blue Pavilion.
The Second Deputy Mayor, Maria Eugenia Gay, and the Councillor for Sports, David Escudé, welcomed the participants to an event that also featured athletes such as Melcior Mauri, Albert Torres, David Velasco, Paula Fernández Ochoa, and Maria Fontanals.
The event transformed the waterfront into a large outdoor stationary cycling area, a charitable initiative that also extended to several of the city’s Municipal Sports Centres (CEMs), from where dozens of people connected online to cycle simultaneously.
The event aimed to raise funds for brain disease research supported by the Hospital del Mar Research Institute. At the closing ceremony, David Escudé presented a cheque for €8,330 to the hospital’s researchers, concluding an initiative that combined sport, health, and solidarity in Barcelona.
