The 2026 Tour de France Grand Départ in Barcelona began its launch this weekend at theSea Otter Europe event in Girona, which concluded its ninth edition with a record-breaking 74,000 visitors.
The trophy of the Tour de France, which next year will set off from Barcelona, was one of the big attractions on the stand of the Departament d’Esports, which sponsors the festival. Thousands of people took the opportunity to have their photo taken with the award, among them the legendary Miguel Indurain, winner of five consecutive editions of the French cycling competition.
The stand also screened information videos about the route for next year’s edition, which will include three stages that go through Barcelona, Tarragona, Granollers and other towns in the region.
Sea Otter also showcased the cycling world of Girona, with initiatives such as La Tramun of BTT Fornells, the Marxa Cicloturista Terra de Remences and the women’s cycling project Club Ciclista Baix Ter. Also, in collaboration with FGC, visitors were able to experience the descent in BTT de la Molina using virtual reality headsets.
With more than 6,000 cyclists registered for the various races and the success of Ciclobrava, which had 1,800 participants, the festival confirmed its commitment to combining elite competition and amateur cycling, consolidating its position as an unmissable event on the international calendar and as a platform for projecting Catalonia as a world class sporting destination.
