The Women and Sport Notebook for April 2026 analyses women’s cycling in Barcelona in a key moment shaped by the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2026. Under the slogan “Let’s break down stereotypes”, this edition highlights the progress and the challenges in women’s participation in this sport.

The document emphasises Barcelona’s role as a leading city in mobility and sport, with over 268 km of bike lanes, and stresses the need to continue driving policies that guarantee more equity in sport.

The publication looks at the experiences of leading figures in women’s cycling such as Mireia Benito, Paula Blasi, Patricia Ortega and Montserrat Torres, who demonstrate the evolution of sport, but also the persistence of inequalities such as the lack of visibility and opportunities.

The notebook also highlights the consolidation of the Women’s Volta Ciclista a Catalunya 2026 (19-21 June) and the growth of the Women’s Tour de France, two key events for the international positioning of women’s cycling.

It also includes the call for the 19th Women and Sport Awards (8-29 April), which recognises women and organisations that promote more equality in sport in the city.
